What causes back pain?

Back pain is said to range from a constant, dull ache to a sharp, sudden pain, making it difficult for a person to move. It can possibly start quickly if you fall or lift a very heavy object. Worse, it can get slowly.

Mostly, the cases of back pain are not caused by disease or serious damage by minor strains, injuries or sprains, or even an irritated or pinched nerve. These can be triggered by day-to-day activities at work or at home, or they can slowly develop over time. Some possible causes of back pain include:

  • Awkward bending for long periods of time
  • Pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying heavy objects
  • Overstretching
  • Slumping or slouching in chairs
  • Sitting or driving in a curved position for long periods without a break
  • Overuse of muscles (ex. repetitive movements or during sport)

But sometimes, back pains suddenly develop without apparent reason. For instance, when you wake up in the morning with pain, but you have no clear idea about its cause.

Who’s most susceptible?

There are certain things that increase chances of having back pain, which include:
  • Being overweight – the extra weight sets pressure on the spine
  • Pregnancy – the extra weight to carry a baby can put further strain on the back
  • Stress or depression
  • Smoking – this can result in tissue damage in the back
  • Long-term use of prescription drugs identified to weaken bones
  • Heredity – anklylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that can affect the spine and have an inherited component
  • Poor physical fitness
  • Your job – such as regular pulling, lifting, or pushing while twisting your spine
  • Other diseases – some types of cancer and arthritis can result in back pain

The best alternative for releasing back pain?

There are several medications and tools available that promise effective, safe result. But you will never know whether or not they carry out side effects, which can result in more serious health conditions when used repeatedly or improperly.

So, what is the best alternative to treat your back pain? Most users recommend the beneficial use of TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.

What is it, anyway?

A TENS unit is a small battery-operated, portable device worn on the body. The box is connected by wires to pasty pads trapped to the skin. Small electrical pulses are then transferred to the body, which is similar to little electric shocks. This helps to ease the pain in some people with particular forms of back pain. It may not have robust proof yet for a guaranteed work, but many people find it extremely helpful. What makes it more in-demand is that, TENS units are well-tolerated and essentially with no side effects at all.

How does TENS offer immediate pain relief?

Pain is considered to be controlled by the machine in either sensory level stimulation or motor level stimulation.

Sensory level stimulation.
The Gate Control concept of pain means the electrical TENS machine output restricts the spread of pain signals. This is done by blocking the neutral “gate” by which the pain moves.

Motor level stimulation.
The goal is to cause the discharge of the opiate-like substances of human body to achieve pain release.

Is TENS worth the money?

Previously, TENS machines were only found in medical institutions as they were simply very costly for home use. But now, these units can be bought and used for a slew of treatment situations.

From pain relief to nerve retraining – a TENS unit is a crucial tool that helps people improve their well-being. Through electric impulses, various benefits can be gained, among them are:

Alleviate back pain

The electric impulses being sent to a muscle will release the pain you are dealing with. From arm to back pain, the unit will naturally offer immense relief your body needs. The impulses stimulate the relief of endorphins inside the body. This is the natural way for your body to relieve pain and acts as a pain killer with no side effects.

Retrain your nerves

Often, nerve damage can result in loss in movement or pain. When they’re not able to send or receive signals properly, difficulty to move or pain will immediately follow. But with TENS machine, you can be able to retrain your nerves to properly work.

Massage benefits

In many cases, manufacturers offer TENS machines that act as massagers. They will follow a various pulse pattern to offer a massage. If you are suffering from elbow or back pain, the massage benefits can very helpful to your body.

Decrease inflammation

According to the study of the University of Washington, the utilization of proper stimulation with a TENS unit can reduce inflammation in muscle fibers. For back pain sufferers, they can find the relief they need to function normally.

Say goodbye to back pain with a TENS unit. Now, you can enjoy every single hour without being strained about your pain.
