The Richmar EMG Pro is a single-channel, battery-powered rehabilitation system that combines EMG biofeedback, EMG-triggered stimulation (ETS), TENS, and NMES into a compact. portable unit. Engineered with evidence-based clinical protocols, it is designed to strengthen muscles, retain neuromuscular pathways, treat urinary incontinence, and manage pain - whether in the clinic or at home under professional supervision.
Modes of Operation:
1. EMG Biofeedback Mode
Purpose: To monitor and train muscle activity through real-time EMG feedback.
Intended Use:
- Pelvic floor muscle training for urinary incontinence.
- Neuromuscular re-education post-surgery or injury.
- Retraining weak or inhibited muscles.
- Relaxation training for overactive muscles.
How it Works:
Surface or probe electrodes record muscle activity (in µV). Visual bar graphs and auditory feedback allow patients to see and hear their contractions in real time, improving recruitment and relaxation control. Programs include training, assessment, custom, and PC-app based protocols.
Contraindications:
- Vaginal EMG during menstruation or infection.
- Use in children or patients unable to operate the device.
- Use near the heart without heart filter enabled.
- Electrode placement over carotid sinus, larynx, or anesthetized skin.
Technical Specifications - EMG Mode
- EMG Range: 0-2000 µV RMS (Continuous)
- Sensitivity: 0.1 µV RMS
- Accuracy: ±10% of reading or ±2 µV at 180 Hz, Max Value
- Selectable Band Pass Filter -3db Bandwidth:
- Wide: 20-500 Hz
- Narrow: 100-500 Hz
- Notch Filter: 50 Hz -33dbs (0.1% accuracy)
- Common Mode Rejection Ratio: 130 dbs minimum at 50 Hz
- Number of Trials: 1-99
- Work/Rest Period: 2-99 s each
- Biofeedback Modes: Above / Below / Continue / Off
- Heart Filter: On/Off selectable
Quick Use (Therapist):
- Place surface electrodes or probe per protocol.
- Choose EMG mode —> select Training, Assessment, or Custom.
- Adjust threshold manually or use Auto Threshold.
- Begin session; instruct patient to contract/relax per on-screen prompts.
Quick Use (Patient):
- The preset program runs in locked Patient Mode. Patient follows contract/relax cues; results save automatically for therapist review.
2. ETS — EMG Triggered Stimulation Mode
Purpose: To combine voluntary muscle effort with triggered NMES to enhance recruitment.
Intended Use:
- Strengthening weak or partially paralyzed muscles.
- Improving pelvic floor control.
- Neurological re-education (e.g., stroke, orthopedic post-op)
How It Works:
Patients attempt voluntary contraction. When EMG activity reaches the therapist-set threshold, the device automatically activates NMES, assisting the contraction for the remainder of the work period.
Contraindications:
- All NMES and EMG contraindications apply.
- Patients with overflow incontinence due to obstruction, extra-urethral fistula, or peripheral denervation MUST not be treated with probes.
- Do not use it during menstruation or active pelvic infection.
Technical Specifications - ETS Mode
- Program Time: 1-99 min
- EMG Threshold: 0-2000 µV (Auto or Manual)
- Work/Rest Period: 2-99 s
- Filter: Wide / Narrow
- Biofeedback: Above / Below / Continue / Off
- Number of Trials: 2-99
- NMES Frequency: 2-120 pps
- Pulse Width: 50-450 µs
- Ramp Up / Down: 0.1-9.9 s each
Quick Use (Therapist):
- Select ETS mode —> set threshold manually.
- Instruct patient to contract; adjust threshold and NMES intensity to match voluntary effort.
- Start session. Stimulation activates automatically when threshold is reached.
Quick Use (Patient):
- Follow prescribed on-screen instructions; contraction triggers stimulation automatically.
3. NMES — Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Mode
Purpose: To elicit muscle contractions using electrical impulses.
Intended Use:
- Muscle strengthening and re-education.
- Maintaining range of motion during immobilization.
- Post-surgical strengthening (e.g., ACL, TKA).
How It Works:
Surface electrodes deliver symmetrical biphasic current to stimulate motor nerves, mimicking CNS action potentials and producing functional contractions.
Contraindications:
- Implanted pacemakers or electronic medical devices.
- Over carotid sinus, larynx, trachea, anesthetized skin.
- Pregnancy (unless medically directed).
- Undiagnosed pain conditions.
Technical Specifications - NMES Mode
- Amplitude: 0-100 mA at 500 O (constant current)
- Waveform" Symmetrical Biphasic
- Pulse Width: 50-450 µs
- Pulse Rate: 2-120 Hz
- Work/Rest Period: 2-99 s
- Ramp Time: 0.1-9.9 s
- Time: 1-99 minutes
- Auto Shut-off: Open circuit detection > 1 mA
Quick Use:
- Place electrodes on targeted muscle group.
- Select NMES mode and desired preset.
- Adjust intensity to produce visible, comfortable contraction.
- Run for prescribed session duration.
4. TENS - Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation Mode
Purpose: To provide non-invasive pain relief.
Intended Use:
- Chronic intractable pain.
- Post-surgical or post-traumatic acute pain.
- Adjunctive therapy for musculoskeletal pain management.
How It Works:
Mild electrical impulses modulate pain perception through sensory nerve stimulation. Multiple preset protocols are included (Sensory, motor, mixed frequency, habituation-prevention).
Contraindications:
- Implanted electrical devices.
- Chest or head electrode placement.
- Pregnancy (unless directed).
- Over carotid sinus, eyes, mouth, or broken skin.
Technical Specifications - TENS Mode
- Amplitude: 0-100 mA at 500 O
- Waveform: Symmetrical Biphasic
- Pulse Width: 50-450 µs
- Frequency: 2-100 Hz
- Time: 1-99 minutes
- Auto Shut-off: Open circuit detection > 1 mA
Quick Use:
- Place electrodes around the painful area (not directly over the spine or chest).
- Select TENS mode and appropriate preset.
- Adjust intensity to a comfortable tingling without muscle contraction.
- The session ends automatically.
